Blogging is fast becoming one of the most powerful strategies for search engine optimization, thanks to the need by consumers for fresh content. Blogging is, hands down, a key search engine optimization, or SEO strategy, because they are constantly provided with fresh content. This is what helps them to rule when it comes to search engine queries, because search engine page ranking relies heavily both on quality content, and the freshness of that content.
When it comes to search engine optimization, quality content that is fresh and new will prevail every single time. Content freshness is something which can be easily judged by top ranking search engines like Google, simply because they compare new indexing versions of the site to old to map the changes that the website has undergone over time. Google spiders utilize an algorithm which is much more sophisticated when it comes to judging quality content, which actually makes the freshness of your content even more important to the grand scheme of things. When Google re-indexes your website over time, it is absolutely necessary that there is new content, so that Google will be able to determine how active your website is, and also how relevant to the topic or subject that you are trying to sell.
It seems typical for human editors to disagree widely concerning the quality of content, so why should programmed software robots be any different in the long run? What this means is that it is necessary for all SEO or Search Engine Optimization strategies to have roots somewhere in both providing quality content, and providing fresh content as often as possible. By providing fresh and good quality content on your website, your website will receive preference from the search engine queries over website which offer excellent quality content which has become stale due to sitting on the site for too long without edits or updates. Google spiders feed on fresh food, and offering fresh and exciting content will attract them to your website more often, allowing your website to rocket upward in the page ranking for related search engine queries.
Let us look at the proposed criteria for a high search engine page ranking, to see this theory in action. If you run a simple query for the keyword “news” in Google, you will quickly find that CNN has a higher page rank than Google News does. The New York Times website can be found on the fourth page of your search results, and the Wall Street Journal does not appear to have made it in the top ten pages. How could this be? We should look at some of the search engine optimization elements for each webpage.
CNN - http://www.cnn.com — The page rank for CNN.com is 9. The number of incoming links for CNN is 205,000. According to Google Advanced Search, the number of pages on CNN.com is approximately 1.3 million.
The New York Times - http://www.nytimes.com — The page rank for NYtimes.com is 8. The number of incoming links for the NY Times is 702,000. According to Google Advanced Search, the number of pages on NYTimes.com is approximately 930,000.
The Wall Street Journal - The page rank for the Wall Street Journal is 8. The number of incoming links for the Wall Street Journal is 66,000. According to Google Advanced Search, the number of pages on the Wall Street Journal website is approximately 859,000.
So, look at it this way: If the only thing that Google’s page rank was concerned with was the quality of content, shouldn’t the New York Times and Wall Street Journal have similar page ranks to CNN? If back links were the most important criteria, then the New York Times would have the highest page rank, rather than CNN. Obviously, the largest difference between these three news websites is simply the amount of fresh content, because CNN is consistently updating their site with new and fresh news and content, while the New York Times and Wall Street Journal are not updated near as often. CNN.com is updated on a minute-by-minute basis, but the Wall Street Journal and New York Times are only updated hourly, or even daily. Because Google loves fresh content, and because CNN is clearly one of the masters when it comes to fresh content online, CNN will always have the highest page ranking for relevant keywords like ‘business news’ and ‘local news’, or just plain ole’ ‘news’.
This same principle works for blogs. The blogs which are updated more often are going to drum up a higher page rank simply because their constant new and fresh content attracts Google spiders, raising the page rank considerably. If you are looking for a way to increase your website’s page rank, implement a blog or some other method to consistently update content and you are sure to find a impressive improvement in the ranking of your website in Google and other popular search directories.
